안녕하십니까? 회원여러분.

이제 위니펙에 겨울이 한창 깊어가는 계절이 왔습니다.

캐나다 한인 과학기술자협회 매니토바 지부에서 올해 마지막 세미나를 12 월 7 일 (화) 오후 6 시에 개최하려고 합니다. 저희는 Covid 때문에 작년부터 온라인 세미나를 진행해 왔는데 이제 모든 생활이 정상으로 돌아가고 있기때문에 아마 이번 세미나가 온라인으로 하는 마지막 세미나가 될 것 같습니다. 그래서 이번 온라인 세미나에는 매니토바 대학을 졸업하고 미국 대학에서 교수, 박사 후 과정(Post-doctoral fellow) , 그리고 박사 과정에서 연구를 하고 있는 동문들을 초청해서 연구 활동, 학교 소개 그리고 진학 등에 관련된 정보를 함께 공유하는 기회를 가지고자 하니, 많이 참석해 주시기 바랍니다. 세미나 발표자들은 다음과 같습니다.

1. 김승일 교수 : Research Assistant Professor, University of Pittsburgh

• Seminar title: Cardio-/Neuro-vascular Biomaterials in Regenerative medicine

• Bio: Dr. Seungil Kim is a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh from 2021 after engaging in postdoctoral research at the University of Pittsburgh (advisor: Dr. William R. Wagner) from 2018. He received a Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Manitoba in Canada (advisor: Dr. Song Liu, co-advisor: Dr. Emmanuel A. Ho) in 2018. As an expert in polymer/biomedical engineering, his current research focuses are: 1) bioresorbable embolization materials for cerebral aneurysms, 2) biocompatible medical devices for cardiovascular diseases including artificial blood vessels and cardiac patches, and 3) topical target delivery of therapeutics using mucuspenetrating nanocarrier for sexually transmitted infections and pulmonary fibrosis.

2. 류민형 박사 : Post-doctoral research fellow, Harvard University

• Seminar title: Preparing for the Genomic Revolution

• Bio: Dr. Min Hyung Ryu is a postdoctoral research fellow in the Channing Division of Network Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with PhD in Experimental Medicine and is also a proud alumnus of U of Manitoba and Queen's University. Dr. Ryu's research interest is in defining the role of gene and environment interaction in the etiology of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. His overarching goal is to understand the underlying biological mechanisms of COPD in order to treat and prevent the disease.

3. 김대성 학생 : PhD student in Biomedical Engineering, University of Texas at Austin

• Seminar title: Colorectal cancer-on-a-chip to dissect the role of microbiome on CAR-T therapy against solid tumor

• Bio: Dae Sung Kim is a 2nd year PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at University of Texas at Austin. He received his BS in Biosystems Engineering at the University of Manitoba, and his MS in Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo, where he developed mucoadhesive nanoparticles for hydrophobic drug delivery. He previously worked at the St. Boniface Hospital Research Center and acquired research training on immunomodulatory biomaterials and tissue engineering. His current research focuses on developing bio-inspired organ mimicry and exploring microbiome effects on various physiological diseases. He is currently developing a colorectal cancer-on-a-chip to study immunomodulatory effect of microbiome for advanced immunotherapy.

세미나는 연구 결과 발표, 질의 응답으로 진행되며, 이 세미나는 회원뿐만 아니라 관심이 있는 분들은 누구든지 참석할 수 있으니 한인들께 광고를 부탁드립니다.

내년부터는 상황이 허락하면 회원 여러분이 참석하는 세미나를 종전처럼 진행하려고 합니다.
