POINTS OF INTEREST:
Once the largest hill in the area, this 73 hectares and 21 meters deep glacial esker, formed of fluvial sediments, was dug by CP Rail, provided gravel for the transcontinental railway back in the 1870s. The City of Winnipeg purchased the quarry and used the gravel for roads and house foundations. The Swistun family purchased the quarry, and transformed it into a habitat showpiece for the community in the mid-1980s, adding topsoil, native grasses, more than 1,200 trees and shrubs, and built a causeway to an island on the lake. The south slope is a popular tobogganing site in winter.
