POINTS OF INTEREST:
Kilcona and Transcona Bioreserve Parks were once industrial wastelands. In 1987, Kilcona was capped with eight feet of mud becoming Winnipeg’s largest regional park. Kilcona Park commemorates the two former municipalities of Kildonan and Transcona, and community members fund raised to further establish the parks with trees, benches and picnic tables.
Transcona Bioreserve was established in 1998 once they scraped all the polluted soil into an underground cell, and was further developed and managed by Fort Whyte Centre. Today, these parks are home to native animals and a large variety of plants.
